The Yin Yang symbol is one of the most recognisable sacred symbols. It represents the principle that all things have an opposite (and indeed every shade in between the two opposites); but that all aspects make up the whole. To achieve a balanced life we must acknowledge both our light and shadow, our feminine and our masculine. We cannot be one without the other and if one overpowers the other, then we create disharmony.
It is tempting to deny the shadow and strive only for the good but it is in experiencing or witnessing the dark that we are able to know and learn what we do and do not not want in our lives. If there was no polarity as symbolised by the Yin Yang then how would we ever know happiness, sadness, love, anger, excitement, joy or any of the many expressions available to us. It is through experiencing the variations of the whole that we experience the many shades of ourselves and the world around us.
We could also use the Yin Yang as a symbol of peace; to wear it as as a reminder that we are all part of the whole and infinitely connected to each other, whilst expressing ourselves individually in accordance with our own individual truths, cultures and beliefs. We are after all just divine energy enjoying a physical experience on a magical planet of polarity as symbolised in the Yin Yang.
“Countless words count less than the silent balance of the Yin and Yang” – Lao Tzu
Work with the energy of this piece to bring balance into your life. To acknowledge always the variety and polarity of life whilst remembering we are also all part of the same whole.
From the earliest cave drawings onwards, we have expressed ourselves through symbols and imagery. Talking to those coming after us, the stories of who we are and what we know. Very often these simple shapes hold the deepest meanings, speaking to us intuitively of mysteries far greater than we can express through the spoken word. Only now in the 21st century, as we learn through science how we are connected and influenced energetically by each other, our surroundings and everything we come into contact with; can we begin to understand how these symbols talk to us.
The intent approach is to practice mindful and focused intent, in pursuit of self-empowerment and our deepest wishes and goals. By connecting with the energy of our jewellery we are inviting the unspoken mystery of these shapes and symbols to work their magic and assist us in reaching a new and higher understanding of ourselves.
